　2022年夏に南島原市アートビレッジ・シラキノで滞在制作をしたことをきっかけにキリシタン版に興味を持つようになった。キリシタン版とは、16世紀末、日本イエズス会によってヨーロッパから日本に持ち込まれた金属活字印刷機を用いて出版された印刷・出版物であるが、その後の禁教政策によりほとんどが消失した。

　本作品は、キリシタン版『サントスの御作業の内抜書』をモチーフにしている。原本は1591年に加津佐（現在の南島原市）で刊行された。刊行年が記された日本の金属活字印刷物の中で最も古いものとされる。表紙およびキリスト教最初の殉教者サント・エステワン（聖ステファヌス）の箇所を計8ページを抜粋した。

Lives of Christian Saints Published in the Kazusa region is a collection of biographies of Christian saints published in 1591 by Jesuit missionaries using a printing press imported from Portugal. Text was printed in Japanese using the Latin transcription of Japanese words (so-called Rōmaji). This book was intended for the Japanese and was intended to teach the Christian doctrine. It is considered to be the oldest Japanese print made with the use of a movable type with information about the place of publication and publisher. 
My graphic series is based on excerpts from the cover and excerpts from the history of the first Christian martyr Stephen, and the dimensions of each of the prints correspond to the printed original on which they are based.
